    Workshop on Research Methodology
    Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management, Department of Civil Engineering, BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus is organizing a “Workshop on Research Methodology” during April 3-4, 2015. The workshop will provide a platform for academicians and research scholars for sharing of views; have improved understanding and knowledge in the research methodology and acquaint with IPR & Research Funding Opportunities. In addition, six out of ten sessions would be “hands on” using innovative approaches as a part of the workshop.

    Nominations call for Distinguished Alumnus Awards – 2015  
    Alumni Affairs Division of BITS Pilani solicits nominations for the “Distinguished Alumnus Awards – 2015” to recognize and honor those alumni who have brought laurels to their alma mater by making significant and outstanding contributions to their profession, their businesses, and/or to the society.
    Any living BITS alumnus who has completed a degree programme from any of the campuses of BITS and has made significant and outstanding contribution to one or more of the following fields (or categories) would be considered for the award:
               >> Professional management of businesses
             >> Entrepreneurship
             >> Academic teaching and/or research
             >> Public life or social entrepreneurship and
               >> Philanthropy
    Any member of the General Body of BITS, the Board of Governors of BITS, BITS’ Senate, BITS’ administration or faculty, or of BITS Alumni Association may nominate an alumnus.
    The details of the award, eligibility criteria and nomination form can be requested from the Alumni Affairs Office via mail ( /
    The deadline for submission of nomination is 30th of APRIL, 2014.

    National, December 22, 2014: Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Hyderabad campus has organized a National Conference on “Advanced Materials for Defence and Aerospace Applications (AMDA 2014)” on December 22, 2014.
    Bharat Ratna recipient Prof. C. N. R. Rao was the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker and inaugurated the conference. Other dignitaries on the dias included Prof B N Jain, Vice Chancellor, Prof V S Rao, Director Hyderabad campus,  Dr. G. Sundararajan (Director, ARCI), Shri. M. Narayana Rao, (Director, MIDHANI), Dr. R. Balamuralikrishan (Group Head DMRL) and Shri D N Rao, BITS Alumni.
    Prof B N Jain, vice Chancellor started with a welcome note address. He informed that this conference will provide a platform for the students, research scholars and faculty with innovative research mind to contribute in the development of smart/advanced materials.  He focused on importance of joint research and collaboration with other organizations.  He spoke about significant investments required in science and engineering and requested in expanding our areas in defence, aerospace and material sciences.   He also wished that there would be a regular stream of post doc students in these areas.  
    Director Prof V S Rao introduced the chief guest and informed that Prof C N R Rao has over 63 honorary doctorates from various reputed universities across the globe and nearly 1600 papers in International Journals.  He was also bestowed with Country’s highest civilian award Bhart Ratna in 2014 making him the third scientist after C.V. Raman and A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to receive the award.   
    Prof C N R Rao spoke about the importance of material science research and its importance gaining traction in India.  He spoke about the emphasis given for material science in other foreign universities like Cambridge, northwestern and Santa Barbara etc.   He informed about the regenerative/tissue engineering, physics, chemical sciences and engineering and gaining importance about energy research.   He laid emphasis on the usage of photovoltaics in India. He had spoken positively about a national energy mission being planned in India.  
    Day long poster presentations and panel discussion were held by renowned speakers. The talks focused on research areas such as, fiber reinforced composites for aerospace and defence, high strength low alloy steels for naval applications, advanced manufacturing of aeronautical materials etc.  
    The program ended with vote of thanks by Prof V S Rao, Director Hyderabad Campus.

    Students of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Hyderabad along with the National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata have won the ‘GREAT Debate’ competition organised by the British High Commission in association with Virgin Atlantic.

    Graduands Farewell Party at BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus

    The Alumni Affairs organised the Director’s Farewell Party for   Graduands on November 25th, 2014 at Library Quadrangle. The occasion was graced by Mr. Venu Palaparthi, co-founder of BITSAA International; Mr. Rakesh Anugula, founder Nirmaan organization; Prof. Ashok Agarwal, Prof. G Sunder along with our director Prof. V S Rao as well the faculty members. 
    Director wished all the students a very best for their future endeavours and asked them to take the name of BITSians forward. Prof. Agarwal gave his mantras for success in the outside world to the students and elucidated the importance of hard work and determination in one’s life. Mr. Venu talked about taking pride in being a BITSian and highlighted some of the recent achievements of BITSians around the globe. Mr. Rakesh talked about the building India and how the BITSians can contribute to this new India. 
    After this, one of the students came forward to share his experiences in college and what importance BITS Pilani had taken in the life of each of the students present there. 
    This was followed by the high tea party where the students and the faculty interacted with each other.
