UGC Centre for Women Studies

The Centre for Women Studies sponsored by the University Grants Commission has initiated various activities from January 2011 to July, 2011.The major highlights this semester includes a research study on Gender Discrimination at work place in and around Pilani, Rajasthan. The study tried to explore the issue of gender discrimination in the leading educational and research institutions in Pilani with the objectives of finding out the different types & causes of gender discrimination at work place, the impacts of such discrimination on the physical and mental health of individuals and also to suggest specific measures to restrain such discrimination in society. 202 respondents (71 female & 101male) were selected for the study through Quota (convenience) sampling method from different Educational and Research Institutions of Pilani.  Moreover, the Centre also conducted a workshop on When to see a Gynecologist at BITS, Pilani. The objective of the Workshop was to create awareness among women to identify problems early so that they can be treated or kept away from getting worse and also the specific stages wherein they should seek the help of a gynecologist. Thirty one women and girls from BITS & CEERI campus participated in this Workshop. The resource person for the Workshop was Dr. Anuradha Sethi, MBBS MS (Gynae & Ibs) Director Education, Tholons. Prof. Sangeeta Sharma, Coordinator, UGC Centre for Women Studies coordinated the event along with Madhusmita Das and Preeti Tiwari. Dr. Geetha B, Assistant Professor,   Department of Languages was the Chief Guest at the event.

In addition the Centre also celebrated 100th anniversary of International Women's Day on March 8, 2011 in LTC Lawns, BITS, Pilani, with the objective to pay respect and appreciate the importance of women, to make the women realize their inner potential and to make them come out of their routine work &  have fun and enjoyment. 85 women from BITS & CEERI campus participated in this event. Prof. Sangeeta Sharma, Coordinator, UGC Centre for Women Studies welcomed the participants and described the importance of Women’s Day.  Dr. Devika from the Department of Languages coordinated the event. Lots of games like song competition, passing the parcel, whistle competition, dance competition and catwalk were organized and prizes were distributed to the winners.
