The Director, staff and students of BITS-PILANI, Hyderabad Campus celebrated Republic Day with great enthusiasm and vigour. The pristine campus, located in Shamirpet, witnessed a flag hoisting ceremony followed by a cultural programme. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Ms Katherine Dhanani, Consul General of the US Consulate General in Hyderabad. Also present, as the Guest of Honour, was Mr VC Janardhan Rao, Chairman of Veljan Denison Ltd. The program started with a welcome address by students, which was followed by the flag hoisting ceremony. The students sang the national anthem with great pride, and this was followed by a rendering of patriotic songs in different regional languages. The Director, Prof. VS Rao, addressed the gathering, after which the Chief Guest inaugurated the Hyderabad chapter of NIRMAAN, a social initiative of BITS-PILANI, committed to work for a poverty free, knowledge driven and thus economically empowered nation. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour then addressed the gathering. The program ended with a soulful rendering of the National Song by students of the college, after which the dignitaries planted saplings in the campus, as part of the college's tree plantation drive.
