  The Director, staff and students of BITS-PILANI, Hyderabad Campus celebrated Republic Day with great enthusiasm and vigour. The pristine campus, located in Shamirpet, witnessed a flag hoisting ceremony followed by a cultural programme. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Ms Katherine Dhanani, Consul General of the US Consulate General in Hyderabad. Also present, as the Guest of Honour, was Mr VC Janardhan Rao, Chairman of Veljan Denison Ltd. The program started with a welcome address by students, which was followed by the flag hoisting ceremony. The students sang the national anthem with great pride, and this was followed by a rendering of patriotic songs in different regional languages. The Director, Prof. VS Rao, addressed the gathering, after which the Chief Guest inaugurated the Hyderabad chapter of NIRMAAN, a social initiative of BITS-PILANI, committed to work for a poverty free, knowledge driven and thus economically empowered nation. The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour then addressed the gathering. The program ended with a soulful rendering of the National Song by students of the college, after which the dignitaries planted saplings in the campus, as part of the college's tree plantation drive.

  The Chancellor of BITS Pilani, Shri Kumar Mangalam Birla visited BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus from 26-27, December, 2011. His visit commenced with the tree plantation program followed by a tour to various department / research labs. The faculty explained about the research projects that the young campus is pursuing. The Chancellor visited the new library building, hostels, mess, Student Activity Center and other facilities in the campus. The Chancellor met all the faculty members, some alumni and students over lunch. He had a brief interaction with the student council members and representatives of associations and clubs and appreciated their activities. The Chancellor spent time with the steering committee members, the task force leaders and task force members reviewing Mission 2012 and Vision 2020.
