Research at Chemical Engg. Department

The department is engaged in fundamental as well as applied research. In line with the vision of the UAE Government, the department focuses its research mainly on sustainable energy and water treatment technologies. 

In addition, the faculty and students are continuously engaged in applied research in the areas of process systems engineering, energy integration, catalysis and reactor design, separation processes, water treatment and remediation technologies, adsorption, nano-fluids, advanced energy materials, computational fluid dynamics, atomic and molecular simulations, machine learning etc. For more information, please visit the pages of individual faculty member.

On 15th March 2017, the department has signed an MOU with Ocean Corner Water Treatment Equipment & Chemicals LLC to set up a research facility for waste water treatment and testing. Under the agreement, Ocean Corner Water Treatment Equipment & Chemicals LLC will set up a treatment plant and which will be used for research, consultancy and academic purposes.

  • AERIAL ROBOTICS COMPETITION

    The aerial robot, developed by students of BITS Pilani at the Dubai campus won the first position in the International Aerial Robotics Competition (IARC) held recently in  North Dakota, United States.

  • Chem-E-Car 2019

    Chemical Engineering students from BITS Pilani Dubai Campus were able to participate (with sponsorship) in the prestigious Chem-E-Car competition (Middle East region), which was organised as a part of MEPEC conference in Bahrain by AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers’) from 14th to 16th Oct 2019. Ms. Urvashi Satwani, Ms. Amaan Fathima, Ms. Jasiya Harris ,Ms. Sadhya Gulati, Ms. Shruthi Ravindran, Mr. Allan Barbosa.The BPDC Chem-E-Car team managed to win the most titles among the other teams as they bagged two awards: 1st Place in Poster Competition and Best Video Award 


  • 7th Undergraduate Research Competition conducted by Abu Dhabi University-2019

    Chemical Engineering Students have secured prestigious 1st place in Environmental Science section. Hearty congratulations to the winners and all finalists from BPDC. Student: Urvashi Satwani, Amaan Fathima, Mentor: Dr. Nishant Pandya, Prize Money: AED 5000.

  • INNOVATIONS FROM WASTE 2017

    Dubai Municipality honoured the winners of the “INNOVATIONS FROM WASTE 2017” contest on 8thFebruary 2018. A group of 4 students (Abinaya, Krishna, Jithin and Sripriya) from our Chemical Engineering department mentored by Dr. B.G. Prakash Kumar have secured the first runner up position in the category “ VISION OF THE FUTURE ” for their proposal of “BLACK GOLD FROM VEGETABLE WASTE”. A prototype compost bin was developed to reduce our housing ecological footprint.
