About the Faculty
I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from University of Calcutta, and
an M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University. I earned my Ph.D. at Carnegie
Mellon University. My doctoral dissertation examines how postmodern American
fiction takes cognizance of the worldwide expansion of tourism since the 1950s
and how this expansion can help explain its self-reflexive character. My work
has appeared in journals like Annals of Tourism Research, Modern Fiction
Studies, and Reviews in Cultural Theory. I’ve presented conference papers in
locations as diverse as New Hampshire and New Delhi, Paris and Pittsburgh; I
have taught in three countries – India, Qatar, and the United States. I have
taught in institutions as far-ranging as Jawaharlal Nehru University, the
Ramakrishna Mission, Carnegie Mellon University, Point Park University,
University of Indianapolis, and the Community College of Allegheny County.
My teaching and research interests
are varied and span fields as diverse as 19th century urban change,
international expositions, postmodern consumer culture, post-truth, modernist
fiction, and American literature.
