 Technologies Developed
    1. A point-of-care device for testing antibiotic sensitivity of pathogens found in human urinary tract: The developed device offers a) Ease of operation and analysis of results, b) rapid results at the bedside or in doctors chambers/lab in less than two hours, c) reliability comparable to conventional disc assay for antibiotic sensitivity of pathogens, and d) Affordable low cost per test.  UTI alone leads to more than 8 million office visits and over a million hospitalizations each year in USA alone.  The device provides for growth of pathogens in a specially designed medium ensuring rapid growth with release of a product linearly related to the number of bacteria present.  In the instance of the bacteria being sensitive to any given antibiotic the chromogen is not released.  The released chromogen is read out using a specially fabricated readout-machine, based on a color to frequency conversion, giving both an alphanumeric display on a screen and a print out for permanent record of the report.  The preloaded antibiotic panel comes in two sets and allows for screening fourteen antibiotics with provision for seven more.

    2. A point-of-care device for measuring blood glucose sensing: The device is based on a finger prick with a micro-needle, after which red blood cells from the blood are trapped in a specially designed plug and the plasma is allowed to pass through. The end product is development of a color corresponding to plasma glucose levels. The major advancement is on ease of use without any loss in sensitivity. Additional advancement is that smaller drop volumes enables "alternate site testing" — pricking the forearms or other less sensitive areas instead of the fingertips in case of diabetic people who need to monitor plasma glucose every time before taking insulin shots --at least two or more times a day!

    3. A point-of-care device for measuring blood (plasma) cholesterol levels: The device is based on a finger prick with a micro-needle, after which red blood cells from the blood are trapped in a specially designed plug and the plasma is allowed to pass through. The end product is development of a color corresponding to plasma cholesterol levels. The major advancement is on ease of use without any loss in sensitivity. Additional advancement is that smaller drop volumes enables "alternate site testing" — pricking the forearms or other less sensitive areas instead of the fingertips in case of diabetics and CVD patients who need to monitor plasma cholesterol regularly.

    4. A point-of-care device for measuring blood (plasma) triglyceride levels: The device is based on a finger prick with a micro-needle, after which red blood cells from the blood are trapped in a specially designed plug and the plasma is allowed to pass through. The end product is development of a color corresponding to plasma triglyceride levels. The major advancement is on ease of use without any loss in sensitivity. Additional advancement is that smaller drop volumes enables "alternate site testing" — pricking the forearms or other less sensitive areas instead of the fingertips in case of diabetics and CVD patients who need to monitor plasma triglyceride regularly.

    5. A point-of-care device for measuring blood (plasma) HDLc levels: The device is based on a finger prick with a micro-needle, after which red blood cells from the blood are trapped in a specially designed plug and the plasma is allowed to pass through. The end product is development of a color corresponding to plasma triglyceride levels. The major advancement is on ease of use without any loss in sensitivity. Additional advancement is that smaller drop volumes enables "alternate site testing" — pricking the forearms or other less sensitive areas instead of the fingertips in case of diabetics and CVD patients who need to monitor plasma HDLc regularly.
