In todays era, polymers are in growing demand in all fields inlcluding paints, automobiles, biomedical applications, clothings, coatings, adhesives, etc.
Recent advances in living radical polymerization have allowed facile preparation of polymers with a wide range of polymers of predefined molecular weights, low polydispersities, and various complex architectures by free radical means due to its high tolerance of polar functionalities and its ability to develop well-defined macromolecular architectures.
The methods developed for controlled radical polymerization are based on establishing a rapid dynamic equilibration between a minute amount of growing free radicals and a large majority of the dormant species. In transition metal catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), the dormant species is alkyl halide. We are trying to develop some novel initiators for controlled polymerization.
The necessity of green chemistry is widely acknowledged. This trend of sustained technology prefers the use of renewable raw materials. We are trying to develop some novel polymers based on easily available renewable raw materials.
