                 Quantum Optics and Metrology group

                                                                                October 16, 2022

Principal Investigator

Sankar Davuluri

Assistant Professor

Birla Institute of Technology and Science-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus.

Figure 1:Generic optomechanical system                 Figure 2:Generic atom laser interaction system.

In Fig. 1 the cavity field, when reflected from the optomechanical mirror, transfers some of its momentum to the optomechanical mirror. This changes the length of cavity and consequently the optical response of the optomechanical cavity changes. γ and ζ are the decay rates of optomechanical mirror and optomechanical cavity, respectively.

In Fig. 2 interaction of input laser with the two-level atom generates coherence in the atom which in turn emits electromagnetic field. γ is the decay rate.

Masters students

Anish Mandyam (Project intern)

Project aim: To create quantum correlations in laser fields using four-level tripod atomic system.

Rohan, Nithyasree, Garima

Project: Understanding the basics of light-matter interactions and “hopefully” to simulate Young’s double slit like quantum interference in atom-laser interactions.

Sreeshna's games:

Sreeshna is excited about her latest work on optomechanics and tried to build an optical interferometer with hanging mirror. In fact, she succeeded. For a theoretician, I will give it an A+
