Mr. Abhaya Simha Writer | Director, is a two time National Film Award winning filmmaker. An alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII). In his career spanning over 15 years, he has directed four feature films and over 300 video films. His films are screened in various International Film Festivals. Abhaya has also been a visiting faculty in many prestigious institutions..

Experts: Dr. Nithin Kalorth is currently working as Assistant Professor at Bennett University of Times of India group. His areas of interest are teaching film studies, photography, news media and news design. He is a mobile journalist and a storytelling trainer who has conductedworkshops for WHO, Kerala Press Club and other institutes. He is an active documentary filmmaker and is currently shooting a documentary on "Kaladham"--artist sociology of Greater Noida.

Workshop on Writing

Date: 7th April, 2018

A workshop on Academic Writing with Prof. Mart Stewart, a Fulbright Senior scholar at BITS-Goa campus (Environment and Food Historian at Western Washington University, USA) as resource person was organised by Dr. Rayson K. Alex and Mr. Ranajoy Roy on 07 April, 2018. The workshop discussed the various aspects of writing including, how to write sharp reports and essays. Prof. Stewart elaborated in detail about how to write the introduction in an essay/article which is the most important aspect of the same. The students gained detailed insights into the topic which they could further implement in their writings.

Workshop on Filmmaking

Speaker: Mr. Saumyananda Sahi

Date and Time:  11 & 12 March 2017; Venue:  LC- 101

About the Speaker: Mr. Sahi graduated from St. Stephens College, Delhi, with a distinction in Philosophy, and studied Film Cinematography in the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He founded Skreen Films with his wife, Tanushree Das Sahi. He is currently based in Goa, India. Over the last ten years Saumyananda has worked as a cinematographer on both documentaries as well as fiction features with eminent directors including Anne Aghion, Thomas F. Lennon, Kamal Swaroop, Gitanjali Rao, Vasant Nath, Arun Karthick, Anamika Huksar and Sunanda Bhat.

About the workshop: The workshop aimed to cover myriad topics such as aesthetics of cinema and other visual arts, visual storytelling, shot design, story boarding and editing. The participants worked in groups to prepare a script and execute it. The groups were supervised by Mr. Sahi.

Symposium on Digital Humanities

The One-Day Symposium on Digital Humanities (DH): Perspectives & Challenges to be organized by the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences at BITS Pilani – K.K. Birla Goa Campus on 9 September 2016 would serve as a learning platform for the researchers and teachers of arts, science, and engineering disciplines to develop a new approach towards improved pedagogies related to the theory and praxis of DH. Prof. Sukanta Chaudhuri, Professor Emeritus, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Prof. Supriya Chaudhuri, Professor Emeritus, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, Prof. D. Venkat Rao, Professor & former Dean, School of Critical Humanities, The English &Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, Prof. Navjyoti Singh, Head, Centre for Exact Humanities, IIIT Hyderabad, Prof. Padmini Ray Murray, Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bengaluru, Prof. Dilip D’Souza, Writer & Journalist, Mumbai, delivered expert talks on various Digital Humanities projects that they undertook.

Panel discussions on the following topics were conducted in the symposium: ‘Understanding DH’, ‘Designing a DH Curriculum’, ‘Possible DH projects’, ‘DH as a graduate program’, ‘Challenges involved in it initiating a DH’.
