Thesis Title: Experimental and theoretical studies on unmixed combustion for heat transfer applications (Funded project of DST, Govt. of India and Thermax Ltd., Pune)
Supervisor: Prof. Srinivas Krishnaswamy (Professor, Department of Chemical Engg., BITS Pilani K. K. Birla Goa Campus, Goa)
Degree awarded: July 2017
Highlights of the PhD work:
Experimental investigations were carried out and the potential of Unmixed Combustion for heat transfer to coolant air was successfully demonstrated using the first of its kind packed bed reactor based test rig.
A new methodology to estimate kinetics of non-catalytic gas-solid reactions using Pulsed Micro-reactor (PMR) technique was developed and successfully demonstrated by estimating kinetic parameters of Cu oxidation and CuO reduction.
Developed mathematical model for UMC based packed bed reactor integrated with heat transfer to coolant and validated with the experimental data. A commercial CFD software COMSOL MultiphysicsTM was used for this purpose.
