Dr. Amit Jain is a Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, BITS-Pilani, Pilani Campus, Rajasthan, India. He has received Ph.D. from BITS-Pilani, Pilani Campus in the year 2015. Prior to joining BITS Pilani he worked as a Lecturer & Assistant Professor at Institute of Technology, Nirma University, Ahmedabad. Dr. Jain has nineteen years of teaching, research, and administrative experience.
At undergraduate level, Dr. Jain has taught Thermodynamics, Chemical Process Calculation, Fluid Mechanics, Process Design Principles, Chemical Process Technology, Separation Processes, Process Dynamics and Control, Process Plant Safety, Biochemical Engineering, Environment Pollution Control, Numerical Methods for Chemical Engineers, Optimization, Structure and Properties of Materials, Measurement Techniques; at graduate level he has taught Reaction Engineering, Biological Wastewater Treatment Techniques & Recycling, and Advanced Process Control. Among all the subjects, he is fond of teaching Biochemical Engineering.
Dr. Jain is actively pursuing research in the area of biosurfactant production from agro-industrial wastes via biochemical route, biosurfactants application development in detergent formulations, nanoparticle synthesis, environmental bioremediation etc. His research interest also includes biochemical process optimization and control. He is currently guiding two PhD students and has supervised several Masters' degree dissertations and Undergraduate thesis & projects. He has about 30 publications in reputed journals, conferences, and a few book chapters. He has reviewed research articles for journals: Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery, Springer Verlag; Chemical Product and Process Modeling, Walter de Gruyter GmbH; Journal of Surfactants and Detergents, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.; Chemical and Process Engineering Journal, Polish Academy of Sciences. He has visited Malaysia, Thailand and USA to disseminate his research work with financial support from CSIR, CSIS, and DST. He recently has received Best Paper Presentation Award for the paper entitled "Remediation of Waste Engine Oil Contaminated Soil Using Biosurfactant Based Detergent Formulation", in session 1 (Track ID: Water-009): Pre-treatment and Removal of contamination from the water in ICAWTM-22, an international conference held at Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU), Gandhinagar, India during March 25-26, 2022.
Apart from teaching and research he has held various administrative positions. Currently, he is President (acting) and Vice-president, Staff Association, BITS Pilani (2019-onwards); Convener, Departmental Committee of Academics (2022-onwards); Member, Academic Counselling Board (2020-onwards); Honorary Chairman, IIChE Pilani Regional Center (2022-onwards). He is also the founding Advisor of AIChE BITS Pilani Students' Chapter. He has organized various conference and workshop on analytical instruments, MATLAB & Simulink etc. at BITS Pilani during 2012-2019. He has delivered several invited talk, expert lectures and chaired sessions at BIET Jhansi, SLIET Longowal, MNNIT Allahabad and BITS Pilani. He has also been an external examiner for UG Laboratory Process Control and Instrumentation, Unit Operations etc. at Banasthali Vidyapeeth, Niwai, Jaipur and GGS Indraprastha University, New Delhi.
Dr. Jain is a part of various professional bodies in India and abroad: Life Member, Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE); Senior Member, American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE); Member, International Association of Engineers (IAENG); Member, Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI); Member, Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society (APCBEES). Member, International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology (IACSIT) - Applied Chemical Engineering Society (ACES).
On family front, Dr. Jain’s father Shri Suresh Chand Jain is a Retired Bank Manager and his mother Smt. Urmila Jain is a homemaker. Dr. Jain was born in the year 1979 and married to Smt. Supriya (M.Tech, Software Engineering) in the year 2009 and is blessed with two kids Master Advait (11 Years) and Miss Akshitaa (8 Years). Smt. Supriya Jain is currently working at Smt. Janki Devi Mandelia School, Pilani as a computer science teacher.
Dr. Jain loves to read books particularly spiritual, motivational and biographies, his other hobbies are watching movies science fiction, suspense & thriller, travelling and driving.
