Mentor, Teaching Learning Centre (since September 2020)

Teaching Learning Centre (TLC) was established at all BITS campuses in June 2015.  The main goal of the TLC is to to keep abreast with the best practices in teaching-learning across the globe, create opportunities for the community to come together and share with others what they have to offer, and maintain an environment that nurtures and support the innovative pedagogic pursuits of the teachers. I am one of the faculty mentors to TLC since September 2020.  More information on the recent (or past) TLC activities can be found here.

Mentor - Team Anant (Since January 2019)

Team Anant, comprising of ~40 students, was conceived in January 2013 to build BITS Pilani’s first nanosatellite. The Team initially worked under the Student Satellite Program by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Currently, the team is working on a project selected under ISRO's Announcement of Opportunity for Orbital Platform (PS4) scheme, as well as on building its earlier planned nano-satellite with hyperspectral imager as a payload.

Faculty In-Charge - The Astro Club (since August 2014)

The department houses an astronomical observatory that is equipped with two telescopes, a 6” refracting telescope, and an 11" Celestron's Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. The observatory has recently procured a CCD camera which can be used with the 11" telescope to obtain long-exposure, high quality images, of nebulae and star-clusters. There are 30-40 student members of the Club, who are from different disciplines and years. Astro Club makes a regular use of both the telescopes to observe celestial objects on a fortnightly basis. In addition, they organize following activities:

  • Sky Watch for Faculty/Staff Families

  • Public Sky-Watch Sessions
  • Astronomy Workshops during APOGEE and OASIS
  • Space Week Celebration
