  The most awaited Art event, ARTEX 2023 conducted by the SHADES club BPDC was inaugurated on March 1st, 2023 by our Director, Professor Dr. Srinivasan Madapusi accompanied by Dr. Priti Bajpai, Dean of Student Welfare, Mrs. Anuradha Srinivasan and Dr. Vijaya Ilango SHADES club Faculty-in-charge lighting the lamp gracing the occasion. Dr. Vijaya Ilango, Faculty in charge of Shades welcomed and briefed about the event . Following the welcome speech, Director spoke words of enlightenment and praised the event for showcasing every Bitsian’s talent.

• BITS Pilani Dubai Campus launches Satellite Mission under the supervision of the Moon Man of India

   

   

  Premier engineering institution BITS Pilani Dubai Campus (BPDC) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UAE-based Edutech4Space that will see its engineering students build and launch into orbit a working satellite, named MAHASAT.

  
  

  The creation of MAHASAT will be overseen by Padma Shri-awardee Dr MylswamyAnnadurai, Former Director of Indian Space Research Organisation’s Satellite Centre and the scientist behind India’s successful Moon and Mars Missions, popularly known as the Moon Man of India. UAE’s online space education hub, Edutech4Space, in partnership with various institutions across the globe will train and guide the students of BPDC on this mission.

  The name of the satellite, MAHASAT, is of particular significance. The term ‘Maha’ in Sanskrit means ‘large’, and in keeping with this, the initiative hopes to impart big lessons on engineering and development, space exploration and even record keeping. The term ‘Al Maha’ meanwhile is another name for the Arabian Oryx, which is BPDC’s campus mascot and is considered a sign of endurance.

  The initiative aims to teach pupils from different areas of engineering skills in design, development, manufacture, integration, testing, launch, and on-orbit control of Picosats and Cubesats. These are small, compact and light-weight satellites, and a cost-effective platform for science investigations and new technology demonstrations.

  Launching the MAHASAT project, Prof Srinivasan Madapusi, Director of BPDC, said: “We are excited to commence our new initiative, MAHASAT, that will accord BPDC a star role in space and satellite technology and education. BPDC is uniquely positioned to provide the necessary technical foundation in view of its strong fundamentals in engineering and project-based experiential learning. Students will be involved in every aspect of this initiative ably supported by Edutech4Space. The interdisciplinary nature of this domain will provide far-reaching benefits to all the participants”.

  MAHASAT will be built in phases; first, a picosatellite will be built and tested using drones. Next, a ground station at the BPDC campus will be followed by an engineering model of the cubes at, constructed based off data collected in the field, and then the model will be further developed for final launch.

  Shrisudha Viswanathan, Founder & CEO of Edutech4Space, says: “The MAHASAT project comes at an exciting moment – at a time when the UAE is making inroads into space research with missions such as the Emirates Mars Mission and the Rashid Rover. Edutech4Space plans to arm the new generation with information and skills required to excel in the new frontier of space technology, with hands-on training and guidance from educators at the top of their fields. We can’t wait to see the final product.”

• Salute to our Students!

  Al Noor Super Hero walk for inclusion was organized by Al Noor Rehabilitation & Welfare Association for People of Determination on 4th March 2023. More than 50 students from BPDC Volunteered for the event and wholeheartedly contributed towards the success of the event.

• BPDC- "Outstanding Technology Transformation Award"

  BITS Pilani Dubai Campus (BPDC) has won Outstanding Technology Transformation Award at the SME Tech Innovation Summit & Awards 2023. Organised by Leap Media Solutions, the award function recognised the digital transformation vision and initiatives by Prof Srinivasan Madapusi, Director, BITS Pilani Dubai Campus. BPDC is the only University from UAE to win the Award in this category. Mr. Saravanakumar Dhinakaran, Head of IT, at BPDC won “Technology Accelerator of the Year 2023” award for his contribution to the technology transformation drive of BPDC.

   

  The UAE has a vibrant SME segment and contributes a lot to the country’s economic growth. The SME Tech Innovation Summit & Awards was conceived as an annual forum for the SME segment, facilitating dialogues and a better understanding of as many technologies that can fuel growth for companies. The spectacular Awards Ceremony recognized IT and cybersecurity leaders from different verticals as well as CX experts from various industries.

  Jubilant in winning the awards and the industry’s recognition of BPDC’s pioneering technological initiatives, Prof. Srinivasan Madapusi, visionary leader and Director of BITS Pilani Dubai Campus, said, “Digital transformations are inevitable for the academic institutions to prepare the young minds for the next digital era. • BPDC Wins The BEST ENGINEERING UNIVERSITY - UNITED ARAB EMIRATES Award for the year 2022!

  The Award was presented to the BPDC's Director, Prof. Madapusi Srinivasan and Marketing Manager, Ms. Anuradha Srinivasan by Mr. V.S. Shivakumar CEO of CloodOn and Shankar Mahadevan Academy on behalf of Global Brands Magazine. The Award ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria, Palm Jumeirah in Dubai was held on December 10, 2022.

• BPDC's Wall Street Club Secures the Top Position

  We are proud to announce that a team of 4 BPDC students - Ansh Choudhary (2nd year), Naman Saxena (2nd year), Raj Singh (1st year) and Joel John (4th year) have secured 1st place in the 2020 UAE University Trading Competition organized by MaskEX Global, winning 1,500 USDT as prize money. 

  
  

  Under the guidance of Dr. Sartaj Rather, this Wall Street Club Team - representing BITS Pilani Dubai Campus - participated in the event for the duration of one month and earned the highest profit ($20000) by trading cryptocurrencies on the MaskEX Demo Trading App, thereby, securing their position at the top of the leaderboard by a huge margin. 

   

  Teams from different universities including Murdoch Unvi, Wollongong, RIT, IMT, De Montfort and Heriot Watt participated in this event which was held to promote financial literacy and the use of digital assets in UAE. 

   

  Congratulations to the team and The Wall Street Club for winning this competition!

   

• Ethnic Day 2022

  Ethnic day, is celebrated every year on the Day, the foundation stone for BITS Pilani Dubai Campus was laid. It is the most colorful event of the campus and it proved to be an epic celebration this year, too! Celebrations began on the right note with a groovy DJ, that had the whole Campus dancing to its tunes, alongside some delicious food stalls by Jay's Cafe and Basil and Spice Catering. Festivities in the auditorium commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Dr. Srinivasan Madapusi and Mrs. Anuradha. Students witnessed performances by faculty- Dr. Neeru Sood, Dr. K. K Singh and Dr. Vijay Kumar. They had us all swaying to their melodious tunes!  Allure, the fashion club of BPDC and Trebel, the music club, presented an amalgamation of eye-catching fashion and soulful music, creating a wholesome atmosphere for the evening. Every event is incomplete without Groove, the dance club of BPDC, setting the stage on fire. An amazing mix of songs and dance styles had the whole audience captivated!

  The Sports Club of BPDC took over the event with the jersey and trailer reveal of the much-awaited BITS Sports Festival. They also welcomed Riva Travels, the gold sponsors of BSF 2022.

  To end the evening on the right note, Allure presented the crowd favorite, Mr. and Ms. Ethnic , where the audience got to flaunt their gorgeous outfits on stage. The room was truly all smiles and everyone was thoroughly entertained! 

   

  A huge thank you to the Event Management Committee at BITS Pilani Dubai Campus for organizing Ethnic Day with such pomp and show, and making it a day worth remembering!

  Sparks, the annual Intra-College Cultural Extravaganza, was held from the 11th to the 13^th of October, 2022. The different clubs hosted various events engaging the entire university. Paribhasha, the Drama Club, hosted events like One-Mic Stand, Improv and their flagship event Nukkad Naatak. The Dance club, Groove organised group dance competitions and solo battles whereas Treble, the Music Club organised solo and duet Western and Eastern music competitions.

• GANDHI JAYANTI @BPDC

  Gandhi Jayanti celebrations were held on 30th September, 2022 to commemorate the 153rd birthday of the Father of the Nation. The revelry began with a special speech with Gandhian quotes and messages brought the gathering to understand more about this iconic leader, which was followed by tributes. Director Prof. Dr. Srinivasan along with Mrs Anuradha Srinivasan garlanded the portrait and lit the lamp paying their respects to Gandhiji. They were followed by the faculty and staff who showered the portrait with flowers. The occasion concluded with a soulful performance by the Music Club, Treble who sang Gandhiji’s favourite bhajan ‘Raghupati Raghav’ with full exuberance.

• MENTAL AWARENESS PROGRAM @BPDC

  Acknowledging the mental health challenges faced by everyone during the covid years and recognizing the need for post pandemic support, BITS Pilani Dubai has launched a unique ‘Mental Wellness Program’ for Students, Faculty and Staff at their campus. The therapy-based program will provide one-on-one counseling and quality clinical intervention to those facing depression, social anxiety, relationship issues or any other mental health concerns. This extensive wellness intervention program is designed for students to improve their life-skills especially in terms of self-management, stress management, emotional intelligence and time management.

• ORIENTATION WEEK 2022

  Dubai Campus has conducted for the first time a weeklong orientation program from September 12 to 16, 2022 for the new post Covid batch of undergraduate students to help them ease into University life and work. The weeklong program included Welcome Addresses by the Director of BPDC, Dr. Srinivasan Madapusi, Head of Admissions, Dean of Undergraduate Studies and the Seniors. Freshmen and their parents welcomed the opportunity given to them to interact with the Deans and Advisors during the Orientation Week. They also appreciated the efforts of BPDC to introduce all the Non-Teaching Staff including the Doctor, Nurse and the Counselor. • BPDC students roar at the Student Formula in Netherlands

  Motorsport and BITS Pilani Dubai Campus became synonymous with one another during the fall of 2021 when an idea was ignited towards building something remarkable from scratch, thus forming the team “(Al Fursan)” of BITS Dubai Motorsports Club in association with M.A.H.Y Khoory & Co. LLC.

   

  The team is home to a multi-disciplinary group of engineering students consisting of 4 final-year students: Shobal Philip Roy, Vaishnavi Manoj, Abilash Sadanandan & Nigel Davis, 4 third-year students: Adhav Kumaravel, Anandhu Sasi Kumar, Surya Radhakrishnan & Ashutosh Rana, 3 second-year students: Marshal Savio Nunes, Mohammed Aman & Vishnu Hari, and finally 2 first-year freshmen: Sanjay Saravanan & Anirudh Jerish.

  An Evening to Revisit, Rejoice and Remember!

   

  On 20th May, 2022, BITS Pilani Dubai Campus hosted the Diro’s Party at The Crowne Plaza, Deira for the graduating Batch of 2022. 

  BPDC Director, Dr. Prof. Srinivasan unveiled the much-awaited yearbook and thus commenced one of the most memorable celebrations for the graduating class.  A video presentation took everyone down the memory lane showcasing an amalgamation of the four years of campus life, solidly backed up by students who then went on stage to share their personal journey at BPDC.  Professors soon followed suit and recalled their most memorable moments. One could see smiles, cheers and a few happy tears that set the mood for the rest of the evening.

• STEM@BITS - 2nd Edition

  The second edition of the STEM@BITS was held for students from Grade 9-12 on 2 April 2022. The aim of the event was to promote STEM education among the youth of today. The event showcased various engineering concepts via multiple interactive sessions, innovative models, challenging scientific games and hands-on experience on latest tools and techniques . The students received a certificate for participation and also exciting prizes. The various departments, associations and clubs at BITS put up a great show to engage the students and their families in exciting STEM events throughout the day. As it coincided with the spring break for schools, the response was overwhelming with the participation of over 300 students and their families/teachers.

   

  The 3rd edition of this event will be held in December 2022.

• Career Fair 2022 @ BPDC

  The Annual Career Fair 2022 was conducted successfully by the placement division on 31st March 2022.

  50+ reputed companies like Coca Cola, Noon.com, Schindler, Emerson, Hager Middle East, Tanfeeth by Emirates NBD, Zomato, L'Oreal, Sharaf DG, Sobha Realty, Konica Minolta, etc to name a few, were a part of this collaborated effort where 125+ recruiters participated and provided a platform for about 400 students to interact with top-notch employers and discover a plethora of career opportunities, both for full-time graduate openings and Internships. This season of career fair featured international firms from diverse industries and saw an increment of almost 20% in recruiter's participation compared to the previous annual career fair, which created a positive wave amongst the students.

• Dine & Dance 2022 @ BPDC

  Reliving the nostalgic feeling with old-school Dine & Dance was the highlight of the day when BITS Pilani Dubai Campus(BPDC) organized a reunion for the Class of 2016 and 2017 on 19^th March, 2022.

   

  Groove, the Dance Club of BPDC, put up a stunning dance performance and brought their seniors on stage to groove with them. Sweet melodious tunes by Treble, the Music Club of BPDC, set the mood right and to end the extravaganza with happiness and laughter. Paribhasha, the Drama Club of BPDC,  organised a Stand-Up Comedy special to rejuvenate their seniors. These performances took the alumni back to their good old days at BPDC. Many Alumni also came forward to express their gratitude for the institute in their eloquent speech. The definite highlight of the event was the singing performances by Dr. Rafiuddin and Mr. Amsal Muneeb. The event ended with a wonderful ceremonial dinner followed by the DJ gathering.

   

  The night was as magical as it could be and will be cherished for years to come.

  The most awaited "ARTEX 2022" started with the eye pleasing "Kalakriti Exhibition" attracting students and leaving them awestruck . Astonishing artworks of our talented Bits Pilani Dubai Campus students were displayed including our Faculty and Alumni's illustration. Different kinds of art and fun filled games were conducted to interact with the audience . The highlight of the event was the Rangoli competition where the students lit up the lobby with their colorful and creative rangoli ideas . ARTEX 2022 was nothing less than a colorful festival with music , food stalls , games , photo booth ,  competition and the most important portrayal of creative composition.

  Holi, a festival of colors promoting brotherhood, love, laughter and mutual respect among friends and family. It is believed that the colors of Holi spread the message of peace and happiness in everyone's life.

  With this spirit, SRC BITS Pilani Dubai Campus organised a celebration of the festival of colors on campus. The students, faculty and staff- all together participated with great joy and happiness; thereby lifting up the quotients of  love, laughter and togetherness of the entire BPDC community. The event was celebrated with different fun filled activities. The most enjoyable moment of the day was the electrifying dance performances by our students and staff fully drenched in colors. The event was a great success in terms of providing an opportunity to deepen the engagement and bonding among the BITSian Dubai family and creating great memories as well.

   A dozen ideas for start-ups from BITS Pilani Dubai Campus to be featured over six months

  Dubai: Creative ideas from students of BITS Pilani Dubai Campus (BPDC) for start-ups seeking to solve real-world problems in public health, mobility and many other sectors will be showcased over six months at India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

  
  

  Over a dozen cost-effective tech start-up ideas have been selected by Innovation Hub at India Pavilion and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

   

  The students have worked on ideas ranging from sustainability, drones, sports tech to mobility and retail. The shortlisted start-ups are being featured under themes such as Urban and Rural Development, Travel and Connectivity, Health and Wellness, Food, Agriculture and Livelihood, among others.

   

  Pitch for investment

   

  In collaboration with the Innovation Hub in India Pavilion, FICCI is offering these students a platform to pitch for investments from potential global investors. They will be able to connect with change makers, have fireside business conversations, enhance their capabilities and potentially take their tech ideas beyond the walls of BPDC.

  ‘Tech ninjas’

   

  BPDC Director Professor Srinivasan Madapusi said: “Among the 12 star-ups shortlisted, nine are by students who are aspiring to be future tech ninjas and business leaders and three are by alumni of BITS Pilani who have already started their careers as entrepreneurs in Dubai. The students have designed these innovations with the ultimate objective of giving back to the society and making world a better place”.

   

  ‘Abundance of young talent’

   

  Thanking Expo 2020 Dubai, Dr Aman Puri, Consul General of India in Dubai, said: “Coming out of the shadows of COVID-19, the Indian government has set up ambitious plans to garner massive investments in Indian economy by showcasing unlimited business opportunities, innovations and tech start-ups at India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, allowing investors to be part of India’s growth story. I am extremely pleased with the innovations being showcased by young minds from BITS Pilani Dubai Campus proving that India’s huge market and abundance of young talent makes it an ideal business partner”.

  Student projects

   

  Ritik Jain and Jyoti Chowdhery are showcasing ‘Sieur’ at India Pavilion. Sieur, which means a Knight in old French, is a safety device that sends a signal to the smartphones of family members whenever someone is in danger.

  Yashaswi Galhotra, Seerat Parvaiz and Aashi Goyal from Team Shopvite said their idea focuses on a smart shopping system to avoid long queues and physical exchange of currency.

   

  Apart from these two projects, more interesting start-up ideas are lined up by BPDC along with the Innovation Hub and FICCI in the coming months.

   

  Scheduled to be featured soon, project ‘Smart Dustbin’ focuses on segregating the waste such as metal, plastic, wood in the appropriate bins. Integrated with an SMS service, the solar powered bin will notify the user whenever it is full.

   

  Meanwhile, the DJI RYZE TELLO Drone is launched for COVID-19 protocol surveillance. This project proposes a real-time surveillance system designed with face and mask detection features to enhance public safety.

   

  Under the theme Travel and Connectivity are two projects, CHEM E CAR and TAPP. With CHEM E CAR, students aim to build a car that is powered by hydrogen, a sustainable energy source for the future of transportation.

   

  TAPP is a simple mobile application that converts the smartphone in to a PCOS/card-reading machine. The user can send or receive money by just tapping the credit/debit card at the back of the smartphone, thereby easing the process and bypassing the additional charges.

   

  Project VIM PULVERIS under the theme Food, Agriculture and Livelihoods, will see leftover restaurant food collected and converted into a powdered form. The food can be reconstituted to its original form by adding hot water. The packets are vacuum-sealed and have a shelf life of one year.

   

  Also, projects such as MEDPAL, loLetics and FANTASY AKHADA are lined up.

   

  MEDPAL offers a seamless process for healthcare such as medical appointments, records, information storage and follow-ups.

   

  Fantasy Akhada is asSports tech startup covering Fantasy Cricket and Fantasy Football, where users can play and win contests.

  Since we started to adjust to our ‘New-Normal’ life, post-pandemic situation, a series of events took off. One of them happened to be one of the most exciting and cherished sports events in UAE, the RAKMHSU Inter-University Sports Event. With all the blasters up on the floor, we, BITS PILANI Dubai Campus, participated and won most of the events.

   

  With 7 trophies in total, we maintained our position as one of the tops on the charts of the championship. After two tiring and challenging days, here we were in the finals, battling with the finest of all teams of the UAE universities; in almost every sport, be it Girls’ Volleyball, boys’ chess, boys’ badminton, or athletics.

   

  Some of our teams couldn’t make it to the finals, but every effort counts. So, all our respect and wholehearted gratitude to each player who stood out of the crowd and represented our university in the event. They made sure to showcase their worth and talent as sportspeople In the end, we would like to show our heartfelt gratitude to our director, Dr. Srinivasan Madapusi, our Associate Dean of Student Welfares, Dr. Priti Bajpai for providing us with all the facilities and opportunities.

  On 13 November, Bits Pilani, Dubai Campus, conducted the first ever annual STEM event, from 9:00 am- 4:00 pm. Students got to experience the funtastic side of Science, Technology , Engineering and Maths through various interactive sessions, innovative models and games. The event received active participation from high school students from numerous schools. The volunteers did a commendable job in putting up a great show and engaging the students and their families, throughout the event.

• Inauguration of Business Incubator

  BITS Pilani has added another feather in its hat by joining the Dubai Incubator Network powered by Dubai SME and Hamdan Innovation Incubator.
