NIRMAAN

With a vision to achieve a  poverty free, knowledge driven and thus an economically empowered society, NIRMAAN has initiated some projects in and around the villages of Pilani such as Child Labour Eradication Project, and Health and Hygiene Issues of Rural Women. With a mission to eradicate child labour in Pilani , NIRMAAN took up the initiative  of teaching the kids from a BANJARA community who live on daily wages. Out of 13 kids, 4 were admitted into school after training them for 4 months. The main objective of Health and Hygiene project initiative taken up by NIRMAAN in collaboration with Goonj has been to make the rural women not only aware about health and hygiene related problems but also tell them the ways to reduce them.

Dhiti a Kernel event held by NIRMAAN in collaboration with NSS during Apogee 11 aimed in taking technology to grass roots; finding technical solutions to social problems as well as implementing those solutions. Problem statements from various N.G.O.s were taken and given to the students as a competition. As a part of the event, two prominent speakers, Mr. Gyanesh Pandey and Mr. Sanjay Gadhalay shared their knowledge and experiences in rural technology.

Renaissance 2k11, a social conference was held in BITS-Pilani by NIRMAAN in association with Renaissance-India. The three- day panorama had speakers like Anshu Gupta from GOONJ, Swapnil of Tata Jagriti Yatra and many more who interacted with the students and discussed various topics on social sector.

A shelter was also constructed to address the shortage of enough classrooms in the school. It is used to conduct regular classes and other activities taken up by Nirmaan. Moreover, as a part of School Adoption Program, an event was held to spread awareness among children on importance of cleanliness and how to keep their surroundings clean. Dustbins were set up in the school. To inculcate extracurricular activities among the students, sports facilities like badminton rackets, skipping ropes, etc were provided to the school administration. This semester a formal SHG of 10 women by name Khedla Swayam Sewa Samooh has been formed that will help the women to save money. Its regular meetings are aimed to mobilize each individual resource towards collective social and economic development. An handicraft expo was also set up in cultural fests held in colleges like BITS- Pilani, Saboo college in Pilani town and Delhi College of Engineering in Delhi. As a permanent market, an outlet has been opened in the Pilani market that has products like kurtas, bags, files, pestands, jewellery pouches and other decorative product.
