M.E. Electrical (with specialization in Power Electronics and Drives)

It is well known that Electrical Engineers have a dominant role in the development of a country’s infrastructure. With Dubai hosting the 2020 World Expo and with the growing opportunities for engineers in the UAE and Gulf countries, BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus is now enhancing its offerings by introducing the M.E. Electrical with specialization in Power Electronics and Drives programme from the academic year 2018-19. This programme has been duly approved for offering by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Government of Dubai.

With a specialization in Power Electronics and Drives, the students will be well-versed in the operation, function and interaction between various components and sub-systems used in power electronic converters, electric machines and adjustable-speed drives. They will also will be able to build up sound knowledge in the areas of interaction of power devices with power systems as well as the control aspects of power electronic activities. This would help them to pursue a career as Design and Maintenance Engineers in the field of power converter-based systems used for conversion and processing of electric energy. They will also become employable as Field or Testing Engineers dealing with power electronic components, converters, and specialized functions of power systems. They can be gainfully employed in manufacturing, construction and power distribution industries. Especially they will be able to contribute more, functionally in the areas of M.E.P (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) and H.V.A.C (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) in the concerned organizations in Gulf countries, leading to overall infrastructural developments of the whole GCC.

The M.E. programme in Electrical with specialization in Power Electronics and Drives is normally of two years duration (4 semesters).
