About the Faculty:
Dr.
Gulshan Kumar is presently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department
of Mechanical Engineering at Birla Institute of Technology & Science,
Pilani-Dubai Campus (BPDC), UAE. Before joining BPDC, he had worked as an Assistant
Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Thapar Institute of
Engineering & Technology, Patiala, India, for more than 3 years. He
received the Doctorate degree entitled “Residual Stresses in Zirconium: A
Combined Experimental and Numerical Study”, from the Indian Institute of
Technology Bombay (IITB), India. He acquired his Bachelor’s degree, B. Tech.,
in Mechanical Engineering from N. C. College of Engineering, Kurukshetra
University, Kurukshetra. He has been awarded a Gold Medal by Haryana State Governor for
standing 1st position in B.Tech. He has also been awarded Institute Post
Graduate passing out the color award for his performance throughout his
stay at IIT Bombay along with a Department Citation award for the performance throughout his stay at the Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science, IIT Bombay. He has experience of more than 7 years of teaching on his
credit. He has published papers in various international journals. He is also
supervising Masters (M.E/MBA) and Ph.D. candidates for research thesis. His
research field includes Manufacturing, Metal forming, Residual stress,
Structure-property correlation, Material characterization, and FE-based
simulations. His other research interests are in sheet metal forming, thermo-mechanical
processing of metallic materials, stress relief annealing, and FEM simulation
of machining and welding processes. Recently, he started working in the field
of manufacturing management: operations management and industrial engineering,
total quality management, quality control, and lean manufacturing.
