Area(s) of Ph.D. Admission  :

  • Finance & Accounting
  • Marketing
  • Organizational Behaviour & Human Resource Management

Admission Modality :

Admission to the Ph.D. programme is made in both the semesters against the advertisement, which can be checked at https://www.bitsadmission.com/phmain.aspx. The candidates have to apply along with details required in the application form. The candidates are advised to mention their research interest area(s) out of the above-mentioned research areas.

A candidate is normally admitted to the Ph.D. programme after passing his/her Ph.D. qualifying examination. A few candidates may be admitted to the programme as provisional candidates before passing the Ph.D. qualifying examination. This provision is applicable to full time research scholars on the campus.

BITS Pilani offers Ph.D. programme under following schemes.
  • Full Time: Research scholars take up Ph.D. as their full-time academic involvement within the campus. 
  • Part-time: This scheme is applicable for working professionals who can simultaneously continue with their jobs.
  • Aspirant: Industries and R & D Organizations collaborating with BITS can sponsor candidates to work for PhD under the Ph.D Aspirants Scheme.
 
Eligibility Criteria for Ph.D. Admission :
 
For Full time candidates:
  • 60% or 6.0 CGPA or above in MBA or two year Management Program, Or
  • Candidates having M.Phil. (Social and Behavioral Sciences) Or M.E/M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering, Or M.Com./M.A. (Psychology)/MSc. (Economics)/M.A. (Economics)/MCA/MSc. (I.T.)/MSc. (Operations Research)/MSc. (Business Analytics) Or
  • Any Higher Degree of BITS Pilani
For Part time candidates:
  • 60% or 6.0 CGPA or above in MBA or two year Management Program, Or
  • Recognized One year Residential Executive program, Or
  • Candidates having M.Phil. (Social and Behavioral Sciences) Or M.E/M.Tech. in Industrial Engineering, Or M.Com./M.A. (Psychology)/MSc. (Economics)/M.A. (Economics)/MCA/MSc. (I.T.)/MSc. (Operations Research)/MSc. (Business Analytics)
     Or
  • Any Higher Degree of BITS Pilani and
  • The candidate must be working Professional.
 
Selection Procedure :
 
All Candidates shortlisted for the PhD programmer in Department of Management, Pilani campus, need to appear in the following tests:
 
Test I will be for the shortlisted candidates with a qualifying degree in M.Com./M.A. (Psychology)/MSc. (Economics)/M.A. (Economics)/MCA/MSc. (I.T.)/MSc. (Operations Research)/MSc. (Business Analytics).
 
Test II will be common for all shortlisted candidates.
 
The details of the tests are as follows.
 
Test I:  Two hours’ objective test. This test will have 75 MCQ-type questions. The test will be based on 
 
Verbal ability, 
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, and 
Quantitative aptitude. 
 
Test II:  One-hour subjective test. The nature of the written test will be application-based in the areas of Business & Management to test basic management knowledge and research aptitude.
 
Based on the test results, there may be shortlisting of candidates for Interviews.
 

Financial Assistance

Full-time PhD students admitted into the PhD programme are eligible to be considered for an Institute fellowship as per the institute norms. It will be obligatory on the part of every admitted Full time student to undertake 8 to 10 hours (per week) of work as assigned to him/her by the institute.
