Ph D Aspirant Scheme
BITS Pilani admit some candidates into Ph D programme under Ph D Aspirant scheme provided they are sponsored by collaborating organization,
Eligibility criteria- Candidate should be working in an organization that collaborate with BITS Pilani for Practice school/ research/WILP activities.
- Candidate should hold ME/ MS degree of BITS Pilani or its equivalent with minimum of 60% marks.
- Should be able to choose One of the BITS faculty as supervisor and/or as co supervisor.
- Should obtain no objection certificate from his/her organization.
Salient featuresAll provisions mentioned in the academic regulation of BITS Pilani, as mentioned in the Academic Regulation and explained in the document “Overview of Ph D programme”, will be applicable to candidates admitted under Ph D Aspirant scheme.
- Candidate short listed by the Institute will be allowed to appear in Ph D qualifying examination conducted by the respective department within two semesters. Candidate will be formally admitted to the programme after clearing Ph D qualifying examination.
- Candidates admitted under Ph D Aspirant scheme, are not eligible for any financial support in terms of stipend or tuition fee waiver from BITS Pilani.
- Candidates are allowed to work in his/her organization. If required by the DRC, they may have to come to the respective campus for course work/presentation etc.
- Candidate will submit his research proposal within two semester of clearing the qualifying examination. He/ she can choose a Ph D holder with proven research competence, from his /her parental organisation as supervisor/co-supervisor. In addition, one BITS faculty has to be taken as supervisor and/or as co-supervisor.
- Candidate will register every semester in the prescribed courses, till the submission of final thesis failing which their admission to the programme will be cancelled. However, under special circumstances such as critical illness or maternity leave in case of female candidates, they can take prior approval from DCC to drop a semester.
- Candidate will clear all his dues by paying requisite tuition and other fee every semester before registration.
- Candidate will receive a soft copy of registration card. Scanned copy of this card duly signed by the candidate and supervisor should be send to the Associate Dean ARD within the prescribed time.
- It is the responsibility of the candidate to send mid semester and final grades, duly forwarded by the supervisor, to Associate Dean, ARD within prescribed time line.
A student must submit his thesis within ten semesters (excluding summer terms) to be counted from the semester next to passing the qualifying examination. If the student fails to submit his thesis within stipulated period he may request the respective DRC for extension of time. Such extension for submission of thesis are limited to a maximum of four semesters. Thus, the duration for submitting final thesis (including all extensions and semester withdrawals) are limited to 14 semesters. If a candidate fails to submit his/her final thesis during this period, he/she will be discontinued from the programme. The female candidates who have availed maternity leave during this period may be given one extra semester for thesis submission.
The existing students who were admitted on or before Dec 31, 2007, will be required to submit their thesis not later than Dec 31, 2015.
Semester-wise Registration Programme for Off-campus Candidates (Ph D Aspirants) admitted after clearing qualifying examination
Note: It is assumed that the topic of research, locale of research work and supervisor are approved by the DCC in the First semester of admission.
Ph.D. Thesis examination fees is Rs. 22,660/-
The above prescribed fee for the PhD students admitted in academic year 2011-2012 onwards , the semester, term and admission fee will be revised upwards every year, but will not increase beyond 15% each year (unless the government announces any new levy/tax, which will be passed onto all existing students irrespective of their year of entry).
