  • Programme Overview

    In the department of mechanical engineering at BITS Pilani-KK Birla Goa Campus, in addition to B.E. (Mechanical Engineering), the programs at graduate level are also on offer namely M.E. (Design Engineering) as well as Ph.D. The objective of these programs is to create research focused workforce for the country.  At B.E. level, emphasis is laid on providing the opportunities to students so that they build upon their foundation of science and mathematics and acquire skills to solve real world problems related to solid and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, control, instrumentation, materials, product design and manufacturing processes. Students have ample opportunity to engage themselves in fundamental as well as applied research under the guidance of faculty members through registering in various study, laboratory, design and special projects. Students are also provided the opportunity to work on live projects at collaborating industry partners in the form of Practice School or work on advance research projects with faculty members in the form of a thesis. 

  • Programme Outcomes

    Upon completion of the program, the students will be able to:
    • Apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to the solution of complex engineering problems.
    • Design and conduct experiments, analyze, interpret data and synthesize valid conclusions.
    • Design a system, component, or process, and synthesize solutions to achieve desired objectives.
    • Identify, formulate, research through relevant literature review, and solve engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions.
    • Use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice with appropriate considerations for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental constraints.
    • Communicate effectively.
    • Recognize the need for, and have the ability to engage in life-long learning.

    The department encourages motivated Ph.D. aspirants to join us at BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus, to learn, understand and solve research problems from mechanical engineering and multi-discipline areas. The department also has a part-time Ph.D. scheme especially for working professionals in Industries or Academic Institutes.
     
    Broad Areas of Research: Solid & Fracture Mechanics, Bio Mechanics, Vibrations, CAD/CAM, Aero-Dynamics, Fluid Mechanics, CFD, Heat Transfer, Microtubes, Micro Machining, Polymer & Composites, Lean Manufacturing, Decision Modeling, IC Engines, Renewable Energy. 
     
    Admission: Applications are invited for admission in Second Semester 2016-17. Eligible candidates may apply through prescribed application form available online at university website. The last date for submission of completed application form is 5:00 PM,  14th December 2016.
