Research Laboratories

We have five laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities.
  1. Optics Lab
  2. Spintronics Lab
  3. Semiconductor Materials and devices Lab
  4. Nano-materials and optoelectronics Lab
  5. Physics Central Lab for synthesis and characterization
Much of the equipment has been acquired through funds from project grants, including the DST FIST grant. Others have been funded by BITS.
  • 9.25 inch optical telescope
  • Ti-Sapphire Laser system
  • He-Ne, Ar-ion, He-Cd lasers
  • Photoluminiscence set-up
  • Keithley semiconductor characterization unit
  • Low T resistivity & magnetization set-up (built in-house)
  • Liquid Nitrogen set-up
  • Closed cycle He cryostat
  • Spray Pyrolysis set-up
  • E-beam evaporator
  • Wire bonder
  • Co-evaporation/DC sputtering unit
  • Two zone programmable tubular furnace
In addition the Physics Department also has access to instruments in the Central Sophisticated Instrumentation Facility.

BITS + DST FIST research facilities

  1. Physical Property Measurement System (PPMS)
  2. Confocal Microscope (built in-house)

Observatory

Newly built Observatory was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor Prof Ramgopal Rao on 3rd May 2023.
It houses our Celestron CGE pro 9.25 inch telescope, as well as several student projects.
